The University of Arizona Lunar and Planetary Laboratory will open its Phoenix Mars Mission science operations center (SOC) to the public from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, for a Cinco de Mars celebration. The Phoenix Mission SOC is the base of science operations for NASAs upcoming mission to the red planet. The Phoenix Mars Lander will be launched in early August from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida for a May 2008 touchdown. This public open house will be the last before the mission is launched. After the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., flies the spacecraft to Mars and verifies that the landed spacecraft is healthy, NASA will turn mission control over to UA in Tucson. UA is the first public university to lead a mission to Mars.
Patient Safety Drives South Georgia Medical’s Selection of ...
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC) has big plans to "scan" both patients and pills for safety. Thanks to the Valdosta-based hospital's sweeping safety-driving technology initiative, nurses at the hospital will gain proven, bar-code technology to verify the five "rights" of medication administration – right medication, right patient, right dose at the right time via the right route. The goal behind the bar-coding is to reduce medication errors, which are the most common of medical errors and harm at least 1.5 million people every year nationwide, according to the federal Institute of Medicine of the National Academies. With less than a quarter of U.S. hospitals currently using bar-code scanning technology, SGMC will join the ranks of an elite group of healthcare organizations that are using this proven and common technology, found in most retail stores, to improve patient safety and care.
