The Waiakea High School First Robotics Team will compete in the 2007 First Robotics Championships, which get under way today in Atlanta. NASA TV will broadcast the competition, which wraps up on Saturday, live on its Web site, www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html. SCHOOL, COLLEGE PLAN 'OHANA FEST Saint Louis School and Chaminade University of Honolulu will this month hold "Celebrate 'Ohana" festival a fundraising event for campus and classroom improvements. Among the highlights are a classic car exhibit, game booths, food booths, white elephant sale and craft shows. Festival hours are set for 1 to 7 p.m. April 27 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 28 on the Saint Louis School and Chaminade University Campus, 3142 Wai'alae Ave. Festivities also include a 5K fun run through Palolo Valley, 8 a.m.

Visual analysis software that was originally created in 2000 has recently expanded to include the detection of pornography within digital data transmission. The detection method and software have been in place for some time, but the recent release of Image Analyzer 3.0 offers significant improvements that will allow its practical use in future applications in real time. The company behind the technology, Image Analyzer Ltd., was contacted in 2000 by a major pharmaceutical company to produce software which would aid in dispensing the correct amount of medication into receptacles. Since the accuracy of the system was critical to ensure each patient's health, the Image Analyzer team created a visual analysis system based upon artificial intelligence; after some time, the project expanded into correctly identifying human bodies inside of images, and later was directed towards images with a pornographic nature.

'Thinking' robot looks for life
A 'THINKING' underwater robot is being developed to search for life on one of Jupiter's moons. The machine, called DepthX, is undergoing tests in deep flooded caves in Mexico. A robot based on the same technology would penetrate the ice-covered sea that surrounds Europa, one of Jupiter's moons. Scientists believe Europa's ocean could be one of the places in the solar system to look for life. Unexplored The mission, to take place in 2019, will be one of the most complex attempted by Nasa so far. The £2.5m, mushroom-shaped DepthX has a navigation system that allows it to operate in unexplored areas without human help. Instead of relying on radio or satellite positioning, it memorises 3D maps of its location to avoid getting lost. .
