The Anxious Search: Are We Alone?
Second Story Books in Bethesda has a good selection of out-of-print science books and I drop by from time to time. I was surprised to find recently that they had a whole shelf of books about the search for extraterrestrial life. Here are just some of the titles, all published in the 1990s: We Are Not Alone (1993), Are We Alone? (1995) Are We Alone in the Cosmos? (1999), Is Anyone Out There? (1992), Extraterrestrials: Where Are They? (1995), A Brief History of Life on Other Worlds (1998), The Hunt for Life on Mars (1997), After Contact: The Human Response to Extraterrestrial Life (1997), Beyond Star Trek (1997). I could add half a dozen more, and others have appeared since, including Rare Earth (2000), Where Is Everybody? (2002), and on and on. Since 1981, four books have been published with the title Are We Alone? So what's this all about? The novelist Michael Crichton commented on one aspect of this comedy in an entertaining and instructive lecture at Caltech in 2003 -- "Aliens Cause Global Warming." There is "not a single shred of evidence for any other life forms and in 40 years none has been discovered.
Leo Prime - Classics - Figure
The Supreme Commander of the beasts is back. Leo Convoy is now Leo Prime. In the Transformers Classic Legends serise we have been getting more, Leo Prime has come to Hasbro, I think it is the first time too. Beast Wars Neo was a Japanese series with Japanese toys so this is the first US version of Leo Prime/Convoy we ever got. I got him in Australia in the Big W store and I got Perceptor, Trypticon and Fireflight so I got the whole wave 1 Legends series or actually wave 5 if you listen to the package, it says series 5 and that means wave five, and we continue in wave six for wave six. Strength:10 Intelligence:10 Speed:10 Endurance:10 Rank:10 Courage: 10 Fireblast:10 Skill:10 Package The package is quite small. At the front we see the figure packaged in robot mode and the word Autobot and under that it says his name LEO PRIME.
US Creates Vehicles That Operate Without Drivers - VIDEO STORY
DETROIT - April 12, 2007: Vehicles that operate without a driver and allow passengers to safely use their mobile devices are being tested by the U.S. Department of Defense. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has created Boss, a Chevrolet Tahoe, designed to drive itself. Boss is a robotic vehicle equipped with 25 lasers, cameras and radars to enable it to sense objects and know which direction to go. The self-driving vehicle is scheduled to be tested in November during The Urban Challenge, a 60-mile course in which various robots race across a city or suburban environment. In addition to helping the military, General Motors officials expect this new technology will also play a future role in dangerous tasks such as mining. .
